How to Easily Link Your Free Mobile Plan to Your Freebox Subscription

You pay a bill every month for your Freebox and another for your Free Mobile plan, without the two communicating. Linking your mobile line to your Freebox subscription allows you to unlock preferential rates and centralize the management of your subscriptions in one space. The process takes a few minutes, but certain conditions often go unnoticed.

Same bank account and same address: the two conditions that block Free linking

Before changing anything in your subscriber area, check two points. Your Free Mobile plan and your Freebox subscription must be debited from the same bank account. If your partner subscribed to the mobile plan using their own bank account, the linking will be refused.

The second condition concerns the postal address. Both subscriptions must declare the same address. A discrepancy, even a minor one (a different apartment number, an abbreviated street name), can be enough to cause the request to fail.

You can find information on Pucker Up that details these prerequisites with screenshots if you want to compare the exact formulations expected by Free.

To correct a bank account or address, go to the “My Account” section of your Free Mobile subscriber area. The modification of the bank account takes effect in the next billing cycle, which may delay the linking by a month if you are in the middle of a cycle.

Link a Free Mobile plan to a Freebox from the subscriber area

Once the bank account and address are aligned, the procedure is done online. Log in to your Free Mobile subscriber area (not the Freebox one). The section you are interested in is called “My Freebox Benefits” or “Free Family” depending on the version of the interface.

The system will then ask for your Freebox credentials. These are the ones you use to access the management of your box, not the Wi-Fi password. If you have lost them, Free sends a reminder by postal mail, which adds several days of waiting.

Summary of the steps to follow

  • Check that the bank account and postal address are identical on both Free subscriptions
  • Log in to the Free Mobile subscriber area, then open the “My Freebox Benefits” section
  • Enter your Freebox credentials (line number and Freebox account password)
  • Confirm the linking: the discount will appear on the next mobile bill

Have you noticed that Free does not offer this operation from the Freebox area? That’s normal. The linking is always initiated from the mobile side, never from the box side. This is a frequent source of confusion.

Free Family: link multiple mobile lines to the same Freebox

Since 2023, Free has structured the linking under the name “Free Family”. The principle remains the same, but it extends to multiple lines. Up to 4 Free Mobile plans can be associated with a single Freebox subscription. Each linked line benefits from the preferential rate reserved for Freebox subscribers.

Again, each mobile line must comply with the rule of identical bank account and address. If a member of your household subscribed to their plan using a different payment method, they will need to modify their bank account first before being able to link it.

What happens to secondary lines?

Linked lines do not merge. Each mobile plan retains its own bill, its own number, and its own options. The linking simply activates the discount and groups visibility in the same management space.

If you cancel your Freebox, all linked mobile lines automatically lose the pricing advantage. They are not canceled, but the rate reverts to the standard price starting from the next cycle.

Freebox ADSL or fiber: what technology changes for linking

The linking works regardless of your Freebox offer, including older ADSL lines (Pop, Révolution Light, Crystal). The discount and the procedure are the same.

However, if you are aiming for a Freebox Ultra or Ultra Essential, be aware that these offers are only available in fiber optics. A property still connected via ADSL cannot access them. Mobile linking remains possible on existing ADSL offers, but you will not benefit from the integrated service ecosystem (Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Cafeyn) that Free reserves for Ultra subscribers.

After linking on a Freebox Ultra, the management of options, activations, and cancellations of these services is done in the same subscriber area as your mobile lines. Everything is centralized: box, mobile, and streaming services.

Errors that delay Free Mobile and Freebox linking

Why does the operation sometimes fail despite apparently correct information? Three situations frequently arise.

  • The bank account has been recently changed but the change has not yet taken effect (wait for the next billing cycle)
  • The postal address has a format difference between the mobile account and the Freebox account (check both subscriber areas separately)
  • The entered credentials are those of the Wi-Fi or the Free app, while Free expects the credentials of the Freebox account (login received by mail upon activation of the box)

If the blockage persists after these checks, Free support by phone or via the app can force the synchronization of the accounts. Keep your two subscriber numbers handy before calling.

Linking a Free Mobile plan to a Freebox does not change your phone number or the commitment duration of your subscriptions. It simply activates a discount and groups management. Once in place, the only thing to monitor is maintaining the same bank account across all linked subscriptions: a change of bank not reflected everywhere is enough to remove the pricing advantage at the next renewal.
